As we approach the Fourth of July holiday, we are once again drawn to remember the sacrifices made on our behalf in the formation and establishment of this great country of ours. Though there are many forces trying to divide us and undermine the very foundations our forefathers set in place in the beginning of the U.S.A., there is no doubt that we still stand as a beacon of light and a trumpet of freedom in this world. This is evidenced by what Boris Johnson, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, recently had to say when asked his thoughts on the state of democracy in the U.S. in light of all that has transpired these last few years – “America is a shining city on a hill… I continue to believe that America is the greatest global guarantor of democracy and freedom.”

To serve as a reminder for us, a snapshot of the 4th of July’s history: The Fourth of July – also known as Independence Day or July 4th – has been a federal holiday in the United States since 1941, but the tradition of Independence Day celebrations goes back to the 18th century and the American Revolution. On July 2, 1776, the Continental Congress voted in favor of independence, and two days later on July 4, 1776, delegates from the 13 colonies adopted the Declaration of Independence, a historic document drafted by Thomas Jefferson. From 1776 to the present day, July 4th has been celebrated as the birth of American independence, with festivities ranging from fireworks, parades and concerts to more casual family gatherings and barbecues.

As a veteran owned business, on July 4th we first and foremost, before the fireworks, BBQs, and fireworks, celebrate the birth of this great nation we live in. It is this heart of celebration that drives us to be a store that stocks and sells “Made in the U.S.A.” products. We believe that U.S.A. made products mean ethical production, ethical treatment and safe working environments with fair pay, as well as more sustainable products, use of local materials, and support of local businesses and local economies. For us, though, one of the greatest reasons we stock “Made in the U.S.A.” products is to honor the establishment and continuance, and in support, of the greatest nation on the face of the Earth.
